Kratom: a brief profile
Like most Kratom strains, Jetpackkratom is sourced from the leaves of the Mitragyna Speciose plant, native to South-east Asia; Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia, to name a few. It has a complex molecular profile, typically with over 40 alkaloids that can be classified in two categories: Mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine.
Mitragynine is associated with stimulating effects of the Kratom, while 7-hydroxymitragynine is more associated with a sedative effect. While the range of effects are of course dose dependent, the potency of these compounds varies considerably depending on the environment of the region, as well as the harvest and drying time. For example, with the Bali strain (generally considered the mildest) the recommended dose range is 5-10 grams, whereas with the Maeng Da variety, a significantly stronger strain, this is at 1-2 grams. All contain Mitragynine, but vary considerably in potency. As a compound mitragynine is known as an opioid agonist, meaning it has an affinity to bind with Delta opioid receptors in the brain, unlike many opioids which tend to target the class of opioid receptors known as ‘Mu’. However, at higher doses Mitragynine may also stimulate the Mu receptors, which is perhaps why users typically describe Kratom as energizing in lower doses, and sedative in higher doses.
