Coffeeshop seeds: what makes them classic?

The world-renowned coffeeshop. One of the great Dutch inventions which through the decades has been one of the motors of cannabis innovation. Strains that became incredibly popular and whose fame spread around the world.

It is often claimed that the world's first coffeeshop was opened in 1972 when an old Amsterdam bakery was transformed into the legendary Mellow Yellow. Although this still is a matter of heated discussion Sarrasani in Utrecht really was the first coffeeshop in 1968. Despite its vague legal status, which the Dutch call 'gedoogbeleid', the coffeehop became a enormous success and famous tourist attraction. The peak of its popularity was reached around 1991 when there were between 1200 and 1500 coffeeshop in The Netherlands. What the future will bring is uncertain but the know-how and genetics created for the coffeeshop will remain forever.
