Getting high in the lowlands is our favourite pastime, but we also enjoy some of sweet delights the Netherlands is known for, such as boterkoek (Dutch butter cake).
Today, why not combine the two and see what happens?
Requirements
For 200 gram cannabis butter, you'll need the following:
- 225 gram butter
- 2 gram cannabis
- Cheesecloth or fine sieve
Recipe cannabis butter
- Let the butter melt in a pan
- When the butter has molten, add your cannabis
- Let it simmer for a while in the butter on the backburner. THC is a fat soluble substance, and will be easily absorbed by the butter
- After about two hours, let the butter cool down so you can safely touch it, yet still in liquid form
- Get your cheesecloth (or a sieve, but you'll end up with less). Pour the butter in the cheesecloth and wring it thoroughly above a clean pan.
After following these steps, you should have 200 grams of butter. You can use it to bake a cake following a standard cake recipe. However, why don't you try baking space butter cake (boterkoek)? It's surprisingly delicious! Alternatively, you can fry an egg in your butter or make a sandwich with your butter and chocolate sprinkles. The possibilities are endless...
THC + butter = win
The nice thing about making cannabis butter is the fact that THC is easily absorbed by it. It also doesn't taste like grass, like it would if you shredded your cannabis directly through cake mixture. For the love of pastries, don't do that, it's really nasty!
By making butter first, the cannabis will be spread more evenly throughout the cake. If you're adding cannabis to the cake directly, you'll often end up with some very strong slices and a few weak ones that barely have any of the good stuff. Bummer!
Putting your cutting waste to good use
Another great thing about making cannabis edibles: you can use your cutting waste. The leaves you'd otherwise throw out are actually coated with THC crystals that have fallen from the buds. One disadvantage with using your waste material is that it's harder to accurately dose, as it's not as potent with THC as the buds themselves.
This could lead to a very weak or unexpectedly strong edible. That's the risk of using cutting waste. We advise taking a small piece first and just seeing what happens.
Patience, young grasshopper
Good things come to those who wait and this goes double for cannabis edibles. It may take up to 90 minutes before you notice any effect. So don't take any more after an hour of not feeling anything. Be patient a little bit longer and you'll feel it kick in soon enough!
