Two smartshops closed in Amsterdam

08-03-2007

Mayor Cohen decided to close down two out of three smartshops that were submitted to a total inspection on February 6. The police report showed that in smartshop Blue Force weapons, amphetamine and hash were found.
Smartshop Sigarenmagazijn Rembrandt had been given an official warming in January because of the possession of psilocybin containing chocolate bars. In the Netherlands, the substance is only to be sold legally in unprocessed, fresh mushrooms. During the last inspection illegal drugs were found in the shop again, and thus it had to close down too.
The inspection had been carried out by the police Amsterdam-Amstelland, the Inspection for Public Health (IGZ), the Foods and Commodities Authority (VWA), the Tax and Customs Administration, and the General Inspection Service (AID). The third smartshop in the centre of Amsterdam that was inspected only received a warning.

Also in northern province Groningen a smartshop broke the law. In the shop the police confiscated 44 kilos of softdrugs: hash, weed and over two hundred cuttings. Three people have been arrested and the police do not discard more arrests. The police were informed on the trade of softdrugs in this smartshop.
