San Pedro growkit

Contains everything you need for growing your own San Pedro cacti:

- 25 San Pedro seeds (Trichocereus pachanoi)
- potting soil
- coarse sand
- drainage gravel
- grow container with lid
- perlite
- instructions about how to grow your own San Pedro cacti
Usage
Make 10 small holes in the bottom of the container. Fill the container, first with the gravel then with the mixture of soil and sand.
Put the seeds on the earth and press them gently with a pencil slightly into the earth, but not all the way in! They still have to remain visible. Spray into the container until the earth feels well moist and close the lid of the container.
Put the container in a warm place, for instance in an electric blanket or next to a heater.
Humidity
After one to three weeks the seeds will germinate. Until then, make sure the earth is damp. After about eight weeks it is time to make holes in the lid. After another two weeks make some more holes so the small cacti can slowly get used to dry air. Another two weeks after that it is time to open the lid. Keep the earth moist for another 2 months. After these two months you should give them less and less water. Make sure the earth has completely dried out before you water them again.
Lighting
During germination and initial growth of the mini-cacti it is best to use fluorescent tube lighting. Only afterwards (indirect) sunlight can be used.

“I planted the seeds 10.11.2005 and now 23.01.2008 I have 11 fine young cacti. Don't remember if the kit has changed since then, but at least the instructions were different. I don't remember heating the soil... not sure did I even have perlite. But it worked great anyway. Though due to the moisture, a slimy alga like thing grew on the soil after just few weeks, but my supercacti woudn't be beaten by something like that. After I removed the lid, the slimegrass soon hardened up and I had to remove it and replant the cacti.
The sizes of the cacti differ a lot, but the bigger ones are around 13cm(could probably be bigger if is wasn't for my bad parenting). But since I placed them under a "proper" lightning of 3 ESL-lamps and started giving them cactus nutrients, they have tripled their size, if not more. And that was just 5 months ago. The growth is looking great right now. I even named my babies since they are all so different.”
