San Pedro and Related Trichoc. Species

San Pedro includes the cacti known as San Pedro as well as related trichocereus species. Its wealth of photos can assist readers in gaining familiarity and some understanding of this often misunderstood and bewildering group of species and hybrids.

These large, fast growing, columnar species have been reported to contain mescaline. Several have long sacramental histories; recorded in the assorted chronicles left by the invaders of the "New World" and in ancient Peruvian art spanning millenia of their vibrant and beneficial relationship with humans. This relationship persists even into modern times.

Originally released as the Trichocereus chapter of Sacred Cacti, the text of this edition has been expanded to include corrections and updates along with hundreds of additional photos!

Overwhelming, all the avaliable knowledge about our bitter and spiny friends, taken from many and difficult to find sources, with the critical work of the author, guiding us through the labyrinth of species, reports, hybrids and chemical compositions (leaving many gaps, of course. It´s shameful that no scientifics have studied some questions regarding this plants).
Aniway, the B/W photos don´t let the reader apreciate an important character, as can be the colour and glaucity of the skin. A key for Trichocereus (and a modern one that improves Briton & Rose´s and integrates the advancements of science since the 30´s) would be needed.”
