Spreading the shrooms

On 21 May 2008, Dutch organisation Legalize! protested against the ban on 168 psychedelic mushrooms by planting fresh mushrooms in the gardens of a number of celebrities. They also used supersoaker waterguns to spray billions of mushroom spores allover The Hague’s parcs. These actions were carried out with the assistance of TV presenter Filemon Wesselink (who tried several types of drugs in the show Spuiten & Slikken) and author Hans Plomp.
Furthermore Legalize! offered some full grown mushies to Fred Teeven, the VVD’s principal Second Chamber member, and Lea Bouwmeester who’s in the Second Chamber for the PvdA. If they and other parties in the 2nd Chamber speak out against this ban, the proposal might be put aside.
Minister Ab Klink, who banned the magic mushroom, was never willing to comment on the ban.
On Sunday 25 May the footage of these protests will be shown at Spuiten en Slikken (Nederland 3).
Legalize! announced that more protest actions will take place over the next few weeks, including more celebrities, politicians and media attention.
